Join Naturalist Kelly McGinnis to learn about the annual spring migration of amphibians. We’ll discuss their unique life cycles. We’ll meet a second time to witness the migration.

Visiting the park this afternoon? Stop by the Trailside Program Center for a fun afternoon bird craft. We'll make Dark-eyed juncos out of construction paper and talk about some of the birds that visit Brecksville Reservation in the winter.

Naturalist Foster Brown will continue with a year-long series on wildlife and plant folklore. We'll explore impressions, misconceptions, and facts surrounding beloved animals, insects, plants, and trees that different cultures attach to them.

Join Naturalists Foster Brown and Jenny McClain as they teach you how to fashion a basket out of birch bark. You’ll also learn the art of splitting and making basket rims out of willow or dogwood. This will be a true traditional arts experience.

Eight U.S. Presidents came from Ohio from our distant past. Three of them were from northern Ohio. Naturalist Foster Brown will highlight the lives of these three Presidents (Garfield, McKinley, Hayes) during January, February and March. We’ll explore their contributions to our nation, how Ohio influenced their presidencies, and how and if they contributed to the advancement of parks systems throughout the United States.

Coming to hand-feed the chickadees this morning? Join us for a fun winter themed children’s story , craft and short hike afterwards.

Chickadees are one of the most curious winter resident birds we have in the forest. Let’s take a hike to find them, possibly hand-feed them, and learn about their fun antics. We’ll then settle indoors for a song, craft, and a simple snack.

Help us give discarded items a second life by creating coasters out of old jeans. Bring a pair of old jeans you wouldn’t mind cutting up or come join us with denim we have collected for you. This craft is free, but bringing your own material is a bonus.

Backcountry Skills Series: Trip Planning -Are you looking to take your camping skills to a new level or planning a more advanced trip? Join an experienced instructor to learn the basics of trip planning that will cover logistics and sources of information gathering. Explore previously planned trips and regional trip opportunities.

Come help solve mysteries in nature like a real detective. We will use our observation skills and clues from nature to solve mysteries about what is happening in our park. Most of the camp will be outside exploring the forest, prairie, and stream, investigating the puzzling natural world. Camp will include hand lens, insect container, journal, and other detective essentials.

This camp will take the kids all around the Emerald Necklace, each day filled with new adventures at a new location. Campers will spend one day at the following reservations: Rocky River, West Creek, Brecksville, Ohio & Erie Canal, and North Chagrin. They will explore creeks, forests, prairie, and each center along the way.

This camp will take exploration to a new level! Spend two days exploring the creeks and fields of Brecksville Reservation. We will search for a variety of animals in these habitats, hike and play some games. The other day will take us off site to explore the forest through a unique aerial adventure (suspended bridges, obstacles and zip line) and an equine experience including a short horseback ride.

Join naturalist Foster Brown for a totally hands-on camp as we learn the art of whittling, basket weaving, bark container construction, woodburning, cordage creation and more. Each day everyone will leave camp with a new wild art skill and piece made from natural materials. This is a great camp that complements Wilderness Skills Camp.

Let the kids get a little dirty and a little wet while they explore all that Brecksville Reservation has to offer. Kids will look under logs, walk through the creek and catch insects in the prairie. Exploring nature, crafts, games and fun is the plan for this week!
